some day i'll appreciate in value.
sophie clowes was not amused.
her morning has been nothing short of a disaster. first, she should have never relied on her twin sister to get her up on time. both girls were in desperate need of sleep after arriving in seattle, and were in no start of responsibility. as a result of her extended sleep, sophia missed her morning dance class and conditioning hour. as if that wasn't enough, after neve unfortunately wrecked her lexus, her elder twin was assigned the task of driving her around; at least until the money for a new car was wired from new york. the only good thing that came out of the incident was that simon clowes knew better than to buy only one of his girls a new toy, and therefore, sophie would be getting an upgrade from her current black-on-black bmw. after rushing from their new, smaller but chic and comfortable home, sophie dropped her sister off in front of her fashion studio and raced to her ballet lesson, her shoes in hand and tights barely covering her lower half. rushing into o block, the blonde dropped her bag and glanced hesitantly to the strict looking professor who did nothing but shake her head and click her tongue. after firmly telling the young blonde that class was over and there was no way she could make up the lesson, the woman suffered a rather sarcastic comment delivered by sophia and suggested the girl go wind down with some coffee or a nap. after mentally reprimanding herself for getting snarky with her teacher, sophie gathered up her bag and agreed that coffee was a good idea, and the woman could count on her attendance the next day.
she was used to traveling places in her ballet tights and slippers; sophia was accustomed to her hair in a bun and her toes aching most of the time. she was used to performing for an audience, and she expected the unexpected. however, she wasn't familiar with the personal hell known as seattle, nor the bottomless black hole of coffee that the waitress set in front of her. "thank you," the blonde sighed, gazing down into the bucket sized mug with a raised brow. the waitress, she recognized, had been a fellow dancer rushing from class just as sophie was racing in. the girl wore her hair in a tight bun, and the way she wore her uniform was with more grace than any of her co-workers. she looked as if she walked on the tips of her toes, and the way she extended her arm to hand over the coffee was at a perfect angle. to anyone but sophie, at least. the amount of coffee she was handed was more than anyone was capable of drinking without dying from a caffeine overdose, though this fact was ignored as the waitress gracefully, obviously due to her ballerina status, turned to float away. "excuse me?" sophie called after her, knowing that the woman had recognized her as the 'late student' and so clearly looked down on her because of it. crossing her legs under the table, the sophomore fixed her with a plain, friendly smile. the woman turned softly, obviously conducting a competition of grace with the other ballerina.
"do you, perhaps, have enough sugar in stock to accompany my coffee?" sophie asked, flicking the two unnecessary sugar packets that were clearly not enough to even effect the black hole of caffeine. the waitress slash ballet dancer sighed and slowly held out her perfectly extended arm, waiting for sophie to hand her the cup. the blonde did just as implied; she scooped up the cup and passed it to the girl with a slight smile, even managing to pass on a curtsy in her sitting position. the girl, struggling to show she was the greater ballerina, softly swept the cup out of sophia's grasp, but unfortunately, the large mug slipped from her hands and crashed against the floor. the brown, thick liquid rushed out against the tile and crept closer to the rest of the tables. sophie, still sitting, shook her head and began to throw the small napkins off the table and onto the mess. "less grace, more hand-eye coordination." she winked, a smile tugging at the corner of her lips.
now, sophia chuckled, she was slightly amused.
