of a most u n u s u a l girl; she's the paint in my picture; of a most u n u s u a l world; ---- No matter how little or much sleep Finn had had the night before, every morning when he woke up, it took him about five minutes to separate his dreams from reality, remember where he was and what he had to do that day.
As it was, once he'd realized that Nick Carter hadn't proposed to him while feeding him kumquats, as he had dreamed that night, it seemed, it occured to him that today was Sunday, which meant today he was taking Ella to the little restaurant in the Space Needle.
He was excited. More excited then he'd like to admit, actually, much less completely understood. He and Ella were friends - closer friends, in his opinions, probably, than hers - but friends nonetheless. He wanted to make her happy, just like he wanted to make every female creature happy, but her particularly... In all honesty, she really was an amazing person. Kind, perky - his alarm clock, which he'd set for an hour before he needed to be at the Space Needle - went off in his ear.
Finn started violently, catapulting out of bed with the sheer force of his surprise and actually managing to land on his feet at the end of his bed. He struck a pose, impressed with himself, mugged for an imaginary camera, and made guns out of his fingers. "Bow chicka wow wow!" He sang, before blushing at his own silliness, and heading towards the bathroom to attempt to make his hair presentable and maybe shave.
Exiting no more than fifteen minutes later, hair somewhat presentable - but still messy and still tomato red - and face "as clean as a baby's bottum" as his favorite relative, his live in grandmother, Eunice, would say, he picked up the two top items out of his shirt drawer and pants drawer respectively - and hoped that they wouldn't clash too horribly... And would it maybe be too much to ask if they were clean?
Lucky for him, they were a pair of dark, semi-nice and laundry-fresh clean jeans and an equally clean emerald green long sleeved shirt. Tugging both on, he fumbled for his shoes under his bed - it took him several minutes to find two that actually matched - and pulled those on, too, before sticking his duct tape wallet in his back pocket and heading for the door from his dorm and grabbing a black trenchcoat style jacket on his way out.
Slipping the jacket on as he walked, he automatically reached for his phone, which he always kept in his back pocket, to make sure Ella was still coming. As his hand came up empty, he added to that last thought - when he remembered to get his phone in the first place, that is.
He sighed. If he wanted to get to the Space Needle on time, by foot, which he did, he definitely didn't have money to waste on a cab or a bus, if he wanted to pay for lunch; which he also did.
He walked briskly, chin high and out, hands buried deep in his pockets - regretting not budgeting in time in which to grab gloves. The rainy, windy cold of the fall day quite literally dripped down the back of his neck, and he cursed himself for being so stupid as to not grab his rain jacket on a walk about Seattle in the middle of the fall. Where was his brain this morning?
Finn blushed, preferring to not answer that question, even to himself.
He arrived at the base of the needle barely five minutes before he'd made the reservation and took the elevator, enjoying the view as he went, but - judging from the empty look of the spectacular looking restaurant - the reservation hadn't been nessecary.
Brushing some soggy hair out of his eyes, Finn pulled out his actor's confidence as he stepped towards the somewhat stern looking maitre'd. "Uhm... I've got a reservation for Finn Ellis? I'm meeting someone else - has she arrived yet?"
The maitre'd eyed poor, drippy, Finn somewhat condescendingly. "No one else has requested that reservation, no."
"Oh," Finn said, nodding and heading towards a seat. "Then I'll just wait here 'til she arrives, if that's alright?"
The man went back to his work, which led Finn to believe it was alright. Reduced to having nothing more to do then play witht he hem of his coat... He did so.

i thought that it would rain on a day like today
Yesterday it had been Vanessa on the phone, whining. Today it was Marie. Oh how Ella despised being the mediator. In fact, at the rate it was going she actually wasn’t looking forward to going home for Christmas. She’d have a better time alone in her dorm then she would trying to deal with all the petty squabbles of her younger siblings. “You know what they are like though, when they get together it’s like sunshine twins on uppers. They just got carried away. And yes, I do think it would be harsh to put Kumquats in her cake batter. Well the cake is for the twins birthday isn’t it so who will you really be hurting?”
Ella stopped walking as she reached the space needle. Looking up with a slight sigh. She wasn’t so great with heights, but she supposed it was a building, so it was safe right? She bit her lip as she entered the building. There barely had anything over three levels back where Ella was from. Even if she was a sophomore, it still took some getting used to. She moved across the lobby to the lifts, jabbing the up button. “Yeah, you go do that. I’ll talk to you later. Alright. Yeah.” Ella shook her head slightly as she flipped closed her phone, stashing it back into her pocket.
Crossing her arms across her chest, Ella waited for the lift. Counting down the floors with the digitalised screen above the lift that showed the floor the lift was currently at. She was still completely surprised about how all this had came about. She and Finn had been talking, and he had been telling her how he’d lived in Washington his entire life and it had came up that Ella had never been to the space needle. The other boy had thought that to be scandalous and insisted they had lunch at Sky City. Well, she3 could hardly turn down such a nice offer now could she?
The lift finally arrived, doors opening with a clang. Ella stepped inside, a little tentatively and pressed the correct floor. Watching the doors close in front of her. Trying to keep her mind off the height, she looked down at her shoes. Black- flat ankle boots covered her feet. It had looked rather grey that morning, and sand-shoes really weren’t rainy day weather. Nether were jeans, however Ella didn’t own many other types of pants besides denim. She had opted for a pair of greying black jeans that morning, with a red v-neck sweater and a brown coat over that. It was rather cold for October, Ella noted as the lift made it’s journey upwards.
Not that she minded. Ella was a winter girl through and through. You could always put more on to keep warm in winter, but it was harder to stay cool in the summer. Granted, there were some summer activities that did make the warmer months worth while, but if she had to choose it would be winter, no questions asked. The lift came to a halt, and the doors slowly opened. Ella stepped out of the lift, glancing around. Well she had to admit, it was a rather pretty view.
It didn’t take her long to see Finn. It appeared that he had chosen to wait for her, instead of being seated. Ella smiled, that was rather sweet. Waving at him, she closed the distance between them. “Hey you. Sorry I’m late. My sister was on the phone.”

of a most u n u s u a l girl; she's the paint in my picture; of a most u n u s u a l world; ---- "Oh, no worries," Finn smiled softly, jumping to his feet and brushing more soggy hair out of his eyes. "Don't huffle your puff over it," Finn grinned. "How is she? How many siblings do you have, anyway? Several, right?"
He stood and nodded to the maitre'd, who seemed to have relaxed in the considerably more stately, calmer and sophisticated presence of Ella Torres. The maitre'd sighed, picked up two menus and led them to a seat in the middle of the otherwise nearly empty room, where N*SYNC music (which caused Finn vaguely to wonder if the restaraunt had been tuned to the "washed-up-bands-no-one-cares-about" station) was playing in the background. Finn blinked and pressed his lips together, leaving him with only a thin, pink line as his lips as a result.
"Can we sit somewhere along the windows, please?" he asked pointedly, clearing his throat. "Since no one else is here, if you don't mind... Ella - She" Realizing the maitre'd didn't know who Ella was, Finn rephrased and gestured, "has never been here before, and I'd love for her to see the view. She even has a slight issue with heights." Finn grinned somewhat evilly, then blushed and softened it to try and semi-apologize to Ella. He felt bad - almost.
The maitre'd sighed loudly, blowing his bangs up out of the way of his eyes, and seated them at one of the tables along the edges, dropped their menus, and walked away. Finn hurriedly pulled out Ella's chair for her - as he did so, Finn heard the music change to something he vaguely recognized to be by The Backstreet Boys and rolled his eyes, then slipped into his own, before smiling happily up at her. "Aren't you glad I made you do this, now?"

i thought that it would rain on a day like today
Ella nodded. ”Yeah. I have five. Three sisters and two twin brothers. They are all younger and therefore try and get me on their side when they have arguments. It’s actually kind of draining. But it’s family so I love them.” She smiled slightly. It was true. She’d complain ‘till the cows came home, but she did love them, and nothing she could do would ever change that. “What about you? Any siblings?” Ella raised a curious eyebrow. She liked hearing about other people’s families. She found them fascinating. So much more so then her own. The grass is always greener though right?
The brunette offered a smile to the attitudly challenged host. Attempting to evoke some sort of positive reaction from him as he lead them to a table. However she had no luck. Ella was about to sit herself down at the table when Finn spoke up. At his words, the young woman started to blush deeply. For one, she didn’t want to annoy the man anymore then they had and two, she was just slightly afraid of sitting so close to the window. She shot a look of mock annoyance at Finn as the followed the host to a new table.
Ella took a glance out of the window, biting her bottom lip a little. Alright, she had to admit that the view was pretty. Scary, but pretty. She glanced back at Finn in time to see the glorified waiter throw the menus down in a slight hissy fit. Ella couldn’t help but stifle a snort of laughter. It always amazed her how annoyed people could get in the customer service business. It wasn’t like any of it was a personal assault or anything. Still. Maybe the poor man was just having a bad day? Ella shook her head slightly, returning her thoughts back to Finn.
She offered the young man an impressed smile as he pulled her chair out. It was nice. Unnecessary, but nice. She sat herself down and picked up her menu, glancing over it. The food actually looked really good. “Oh yeah.. Thrilled.” She said sarcastically. Smirking at him over her menu. “No, seriously though. It is nice here. A little un-nerving and all. Nice though.” She offered then boy a genuine smile, before returning back to her menu. “So, you’ve been here a lot?”

of a most u n u s u a l girl; she's the paint in my picture; of a most u n u s u a l world; ---- "Oh, God, no," Finn said, answering her last question first. "I've never been here before in my life!" He smiled somewhat impishly, knowing that Ella had expected him to have been here many times before. "I mean, I've been up in the Space Needle before, but I've never actually been in this restaraunt... Sure hope the glass is good and sturdy."
He attempted to hide his laughter in a glass of water which, in all actuality, only resulted in him coughing and turning red.
Once he'd regained the ability to breathe, he wiped at his eyes, and remembered that she'd asked him about his siblings. "Yeah, I do. Too many - four, actually - all boys, and all older. I'm the baby of the family - fancy that, huh? Riley, Shiloh, Seth and Dax are all in college now, too. Growing up with four, perfect - and when I say that, I mean in my parents' and everyone else's opinion, not mine - big brothers in the house - and we're all about a year apart in age - was not fun."
Realizing that he was dominating the conversation with his run-on sentences and immediately feeling bad, Finn licked his lips, and glanced down at his menu. "What about you? How was being the oldest in an even bigger family?"
He quickly found something he wanted, and, deciding he was going to get the marinara pasta, closed his menu and layed it down. He folded his hands, put them under his chin, and smiled attentively up at his companion before thoughtlessly adding another question to the already long list of things he'd said that she would need to answer. "And you auditioned for the play, right? Who'd you go for... Wait, who am I kidding? You didn't go for whoever you auditioned for, you landed the part, I'm sure."

i thought that it would rain on a day like today
Ella bit her lip, casting Finn a slight glare as he questioned the sturdiness of the glass. It wasn’t exactly doing wonders to settle her nerves, and she would have bet that Finn knew that and was doing it on purpose. However she couldn’t exactly be too upset at him. If the situation was reversed, she’d probably tease the boy back. However she was a little pre-occupied at the current time with the idea of free falling to her death. Not exactly a happy thought by any means. However she didn’t want to harsh his mellow and let him know how freaked she actually was.
Ella smiled as he launched into details about his family. Ella liked hearing about people’s families. She felt like it was a window into another life apart from her own. Which Ella really enjoyed. Maybe it was the actress in her, but she loved escaping into other people’s worlds, seeing how they lived and what their life was like. “I’m sure you will do more then live up to the expectations set out by your brothers.” She offered the boy an encouraging smile. She knew Finn well enough to know that he was smart, talented and a genuinely nice person, so she meant it when she said she knew he’d fulfil any expectations of greatness.
everything I have is for you. Ella couldn’t help but sing along to the song that was playing in her head. I wish I could give the world to you, but love is all I have to give. She couldn’t deny it really. She was actually a sucker for those cheesy pop songs and boy bands. Actually, she never even tried to deny it. If someone was going to judge her purely based on her music tastes then they really were just not worth her friendship. “Oh, well it’s great. I do love my siblings. We are a close family. Not going to lie though, there is a lot of pressure to set an example and not to mention I’m always the mediator is sibling rivalry. Honestly though, I wouldn’t change it for the world.”
Ella blushed slightly, glancing down at her menu again. “Well I wouldn’t go that far..” She gave a shrug, trying to keep casual. “I went for Helena and she’s a lead, so I’m not getting my hopes up. There are a lot of other really good actresses in this school probably much better suited for the role.” Truth be told, she actually really had her heart set on that role. She’d loved the character of Helena from the moment she’d first read the play, and if she didn’t get the role she was going to be very disappointed.

of a most u n u s u a l girl; she's the paint in my picture; of a most u n u s u a l world; ---- "I have no idea what it would be like to live in a close family," Finn said confidentally, "but I'm pretty sure I wouldn't like it. Too many conflicting interests, too many people nosing into your business and telling you what to do. But that's just me. Kinda cynical, ain't I?" He blushed upon realizing he was soundly criticizing her way of life. "But I'm sure it would work for some people," he tried to amend, "just not for me."
He listened to her next words about Helena, and actually started choking. "Seriously? You're going to go all modest on this deal? Of course you're going to get Helena," Finn informed her in his most matter-of-fact tone of voice, quite genuinely. "You've really got no competition. And you've even got seniority over half of the school, anyway!" He glanced distractedly around for the waiter as he spoke his next words. "Seriously, Ella, I'm pretty sure that part is yours'. I'm pretty sure you'll make a wonderful sobby mess."
He glanced back at her to grin widely, before reaching over to fold back and up the paper corner of his menu. He was always a little awkwarder (was that even a word? well, he still thought it accurately described the emotion) then normal around Ella. Normally, nothing could bother him; everyone flowed off him like water off a duck's back. But with Ella, everything was constantly being over analyzed and thought out and usually messed up. To a certain extent, he hated being around Ella for this reason. But he liked being around her for her sweet, perky kindness much more.

i thought that it would rain on a day like today
Ella shrugged slightly. “Sure, sometimes it’s frustrating and they get in my business but I actually really love it. I always know I’ll have someone there for me. It’s like having this amazing support system that will never let you down. At least that’s how it is in my family. Regardless of any fights we have, if someone needs help we put all that aside and are there for them. I know we probably live in a fantasy land and that ‘normal’ families aren’t like that, but I think it’s how families should be and one day when I have one of my own I want them to be like that..”
Ella bit her lip slightly as Finn continued to praise her acting abilities. It was really sweet of him, but she really didn’t need someone building her up, in case, as her instincts were telling her, she didn’t get the part. The devastation would be a lot worse. She attempted to give a casual shrug and looked down at her menu. She had her reasons for doubting she’d get the part. Reasons she wasn’t sure she wanted to share with Finn. Reasons that mainly revolved around the fact they never gave the romantic lead to a fat girl. The comic relief best friend went to the fat girl, and unfortunately in A mid Summer, both Helena and Hermia were the romantic leads so to speak.
Wanting to deflect the conversation away from her own Audition, Ella looked up at Finn. “So who did you audition for?” She need not ask if he auditioned. It was mostly a given that theatre students auditioned for the show. What was the point in studying theatre if you weren’t going to get involved with the school show? Perhaps occasionally you chose not to because you felt too busy or the particular show had no roles of interest yo you, but that was rare for most of the stage hungry kids studying theatre and Washington university of arts.
